Essay on Global Warming

One of the new international initiatives to reduce emissions of common pollutants will be represented by the USA and a small group of other countries including Canada, Mexico, Sweden, and others together with the United Nations Environment Program. The new program “will address short-lived pollutants like soot (also referred to as black carbon), methane and hydro-fluorocarbons that have an outsize influence on global warming, accounting for 30 to 40 percent of global warming” (Global Warming & Climate Change, 2012, para.8). It is found that soot that comes from diesel exhausts and the burning of wood in industry, a large amount of agricultural waste and dung used for heating and cooking causes led to about two million premature deaths a year, mainly in the poorest developing countries of the world. Today the scientists from all over the world state that it is necessary to take joint actions in order to reduce global emissions, to prevent millions of cases of lung and heart diseases caused by them and to reduce global temperatures. It means that the problem of global warming should be solved at the international level. Each country of the world should contribute to the common cause – to stop global warming process. That is why each country should develop its action plan which will include such operations as reduction of gas emissions, improvement of energy efficiency, the usage of wind and solar power, the production of hydrogen from renewable sources, the usage of biofuels made from crops, increasing of forestlands (Global Warming Solutions, 2012, p.1). Of course, the above mentioned operations can help to control global warming, but it is not enough. It is necessary to develop new alternatives to solve the existing problem and to prevent terrible consequences of global warming.

Although there are many environmental organizations which operate to control global warming, it is very important to find solutions to the problem at the individual level. It means that each individual will be able to contribute to the common cause. Taking the above mentioned information into consideration, it is possible to develop an action plan which will represent some effective solutions. First of all it is necessary to switch to the Energy Star light bulbs In this case the equivalent of emissions of about10-11 million cars could be successfully prevented. Secondly, it is recommended to reduce driving a car and to use vehicles with law emission level and with hybrid engineering for improving fuel economy. The list of “green cars” includes Ford Escape, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Lexus RX400H, and other models. Highly fuel efficient cars will help to reduce global warming pollution (Global Warming Solutions, 2011). Carpooling is also a good method to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Thirdly, it is very important to use energy-efficient appliances at home and at work. It is known that buildings use about 40% of energy (Global Warming Solutions, Personal Action 2011). Wasting less energy will help to reduce global warming pollution on our planet. Fourthly, it is necessary to plant trees everywhere it is possible as trees and different plants can absorb CO2 (Maslin, 2008, p.62).

In conclusion, it is necessary to say that global warming is really a serious problem that influences economics, sociology, local politics and individuals’ lifestyles. Although there are different factors that contribute to global warming, including human made activity and natural changes in the activity of the sun, it is necessary for all people on our planet to reduce gas emissions. Greenhouse gases trap the heat of the sun into the atmosphere what leads to the increases in temperature. It is our common goal to control global warming now in order to escape negative consequences of increases in temperature in the future. It is found that by 2100, the average temperature on our planet will be 9 degrees more than today. All countries should effectively work to stop the negative consequences of global warming. All people who live on our planet should develop and implement their own action plan to solve the existing problem of global warming.
